Portree and Skye History on the Web
Inevitably, there is a huge range of references to the Portree area on the Internet -
some better than others, some commercial, some research-based.
This list, which will grow with this site, represents some of those we have found.
We leave it up to our readers to judge the relative value of each, and cannot be held responsible for their content,
but think you may find them worthwhile and interesting.
- The "am baile" site - The Gaelic Village - has to be a starting point.
Although a "Highlands-wide" enterprise, the site has a search engine which will focus
you onto matters of Skye, Portree, or wheresoever you please.
- The Portree section of the British History Online site is taken from the 1846 "Topographical Dictionary of Scotland". Fascinating.
- "A Vision of Britain Through Time"
is based at the University of Portsmouth, and is well worth a visit and some detailed surfing.
Portree's entry contains a lot of interesting detail.
- Just as an example, here is a study of crofting, one of
