Have you heard about the Scotland's Rural Past (SRP) project which was started at the end of 2006?

The idea is to locate and survey some of the many undocumented / unsurveyed abandoned settlements and dwellings throughout Scotland.

For now, the organisers would like to hear from people and groups who are interested in this idea even if, at the moment, they do not have any firm projects in mind. This seems to be to a worthwhile project as there are many such settlements on Skye.
To date the organisers have not heard from many Skye folk and they are keen to make contacts.
We would not like to think that Skye missed out on this opportunity, because people here were not aware of the project.

Dr Tertia Barnett, Project Manager, has indicated that they are keen to set up some projects on Skye.
The timescale she has in mind is -

  • Autumn / winter 2007 - start developing stronger links with the island
  • Spring / summer 2008 - setting up training and projects

The website www.scotlandsruralpast.org.uk is under construction, but gives some more information about this.

If you know of other individuals or groups who might be interested, please let them know.

We hope many will take the opportunity to discuss these points(and others) through these pages.
